4. Workplan

The main output of TREAT&USE project will be the pre commercial prototype unit  which combines the treatment of substantial amounts of communal wastewater in an up scaled MBR system and the safe application of the effluent as irrigation and fertilization water in agricultural production schemes.

Each WP is associated with a key objective to be reached in the project, expressed as Milestones. Each WP is led by a Work Package Leader, who will organize the activities and be responsible for accomplishing the WP objectives.
The following figure shows the different work packages and the tasks in which they are divided. The project’s work packages are closely interconnected. Dissemination and management activities will be developed in parallel along the whole project, linked to research and development activities work packages.

WP1: determination of the current and future legal standards regarding wastewater reuse in agricultural production.  In addition, the technical and economical requirements for the system from an end-users point of view will be qualified to ideally meet their needs.
The second important task in the proposed region includes investigations of availability and quality of wastewater which will be applied. In the third and forth tasks, general data required for the system control and monitoring will be identified (i.e. climate, soil and crop data), as well as the data sources which will be used in subsequent work packages. All this information will be compiled in a report, equivalent with milestone 1, to guide the activities to be undertaken for an implementation of safe wastewater reuse in agricultural production schemes.
WP2: develop and design of all physical parts of the TREAT&USE system prototype. The design of the prototype will be based on the report on system requirements in WP 1, the fulfillment of national and European legal requirements will be on focus. WP 2 will end up with milestone 2 defining the conceptual design of a TREAT&USE system
WP3: construction of all the physical parts of the TREAT&USE system prototype with respect to the design concept developed in WP2. In order to achieve this, all the stated partners in WP2, responsible for the design of the different system units, will now construct them in WP3
WP4: in order to guarantee optimal testing conditions onsite, WP4 has been developed. It will comprise all necessary provisions that have to be made to enable a smooth testing phase. This WP runs parallel with WP 3, the construction of the prototype.
WP5: the already installed TREAT & USE system will be implemented onsite. Above all, this WP serves as test- and demonstration- phase of the system´s performance at the end user´s field. During the onsite testing phase, the partners will operate, evaluate and optimize the prototype.
WP6: finally, the RTD, SMEs and the farmer, using the information compiled during the project, will cooperate and develop an overall assessment of the system performance (milestone 5) concerning all the relevant performance parameters.
WP7:the aim of this work package is to exploit and commercialize the project results of TREAT & USE. The market introduction of the TREAT & USE system or single system components in the close future will be organized in this work package.
WP8: this work package has been foreseen to coordinate the entire project over the whole 30 months. It will take place in parallel to all the other activities and comprises all the management and coordination activities. Thus it will ensure the correct co-ordination, communication and co-operation between the partners themselves and with the European Commission.
